My farvorite thing

My GameCube is my favorite thing to play with when I am by myself. I received my GameCube for my seventh birthday when I lived in California. My GameCube is a small 6 inch by 4 inch by 6 inch cube. It really doesn’t have a smell because it’s made of plastic. My GameCube’s color is black and it weighs about 13 pounds.

The GameCube was made by the Nintendo Company, in Japan. It was released in the United States on November 18th 2001. The GameCube replaced the Nintendo 64 and was the latest in technology in 2001. ATI Technologies Inc. supplied Nintendo with the latest in motherboard chipsets, graphics processing units, and video display cards making the GameCube a huge success.

My favorite game to play on my GameCube is Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. The graphics aren’t that good but the story is. My second favorite game would have to be Super Smash Bros. Melee, this game is awesome.

It’s important to know that I got my GameCube five years ago and it still works fine. It is the sixth generation of console era. The GameCube was replaced with the Wii console. My plan is to continue playing my GameCube until it wears out or I receive a newer system.

Heart's Blood

Heart’s Blood
Jane Yolen

Jane Yolen’s book Heart’s Blood is the second book in a great trilogy. The story is better and more vivid than her first book Dragon’s Blood. This book takes place at Austar IV a planet somewhere in the universe in the year 2486 at Master Sarkkan and Jakkin’s barn. Heart’s Blood is a continuation of her first book and starts off a year later, after Akki has left. Jakkin, a sixteen year old master, has freed himself from being a bond-slave; he goes in search of his beloved Akki.

Jakkin is now the master of his own barn, raising his dragon, named Heart’s Blood and her five hatchlings. He gets mixed in with rebels thanks to Senator Golden who is an off worlder who used Akki and Jakkin to spy on the rebels. A dragon pit explosion killed millions including Sarkkan. The police think Golden, Jakkin, and Akki were behind the explosion. The three of them fled to the mountains, but Golden was injured along the way. Jakkin and Akki tried to care for him, but stayed too long, and the police found them. Luckily Heart’s Blood was there and shielded them until they were able to escape further into the mountains. Golden was dying; Jakkin and Akki had no choice but to leave him. The police tracked them through the mountains, but once again, Heart’s Blood would not leave the mouth of cave and died protecting Jakkin and Akki.

Heart’s Blood appealed to me in many ways. I enjoyed reading this book because I like dragons and the author’s writing style was easy to follow. I also like how Jakkin and Heart’s Blood are so close. She died giving them a chance to escape. I can’t wait to read the next book.

I would fully recommend this book to kids who like fiction and sci-fi. This book is highly detailed and emotional. This book also has dragon fighting scenes and should only be read by kids older than twelve.

Book Review: Dragon's Blood

Jane Yolen’s book, Dragon’s Blood, is a great book about a fifteen year old slave-boy named Jakkin. Jakkin lives on a planet called Austar IV at Master Sarkkhan’s dragon barn in the year 2485 after the Earth’s end. The writer is vivid and realistic; the great special-effects fantasy story starts on Austar IV which is a former colony of exiled convicts and their guards.

Jakkin wants to become a free man, and can earn his freedom by filling a bond bag with gold. Jakkin wears his small bond bag around his neck, but it will take him years to fill. His first plot is to steal a dragon egg, but he fails. Jakkin takes a hatching and begins the dream of raising and training his own dragon. He must train his dragon to fight other dragons in the pits. This is his only way to fill his bond bag with gold. His entire plan is done in secret and at night in his oasis.

The dragons on Austar IV are very unique animals. Dragons’ blood has magical powers. Once you develop a friendship the dragons can communicate telepathically by sending colors or feelings to you. The dragons are born with an egg skin which is sensitive to light. Dragons shed their egg skins many times until they reach their final layer of scales and they are mature. Their mature colors vary, from blood red to dark brown.

Dragon’s Blood appeals to me in many ways. It’s a fantasy and the main character is a boy my age, who struggles to get out of slavery. Dragons are mystical creatures and I could relate to the writer’s unique story. There are two things I don’t like about the book, slavery and stealing. Slavery and stealing are both wrong, but Jakkin is desperate and feels he has no choice to buy his freedom.

I like the book and would recommend this book to people who like fantasy or science fiction. The book is hard to put down, and I can’t wait to read about Jakkin’s new adventures. The book does have an intense dragon fighting scene and I would not recommend the book for kids younger than twelve.
